About Grimroot Studio
Grimroot Studio is a small, independent workshop based in Fort McMurray, Alberta, run by Derek Wilson — a maker who spent years building custom PCs under the name Rhoads PC, where storytelling, design, and attention to detail were always at the core.
After stepping away from the world of high-performance machines, Derek returned to woodworking — a longtime passion that felt more hands-on and grounded. Grimroot Studio was born from that shift: a space to create practical, character-rich pieces that feel as personal as they are functional.
Our main focus right now is The Ashfall Desk — a modern work surface made from natural hardwood, with clean lines, and the option to add engraved artwork. It’s built to be used, but also to mean something.
Grimroot is just getting started — but everything we make is meant to last.
